On the afternoon of May 11th, alumnus of WTU Class of '78 and Chairman of the Board of Winner Medical, Li Jianquan, personally donated US$10 million, the largest donation in WTU's history, to his alma mater, which will be used to support the construction of the WTU's basic research facilities.
Li Jianquan said the donation will be used to build the Science Hall with three functions: first, to conduct research in basic and applied sciences, and to play a traction role for WTU's scientific research, discipline development and talent training; second, to serve as an international academic training center to cultivate international cooperation talents with international vision; and third, to serve as a large academic lecture hall for academic exchanges.
Tian Huiyu, Secretary of the Party Committee of WTU, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Li Jianquan for his great love. He pointed out that WTU cannot be run without the support of alumni. At a critical period when the university is promoting high-quality development, Li Jianquan's donation of US$10 million to his alma mater is not only an expectation for the development of his alma mater, but also a great support for his alma mater's pursuit of excellence and determination to build a first-class university.
Xu Weilin, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and President of WTU, said the donation will help WTU conduct original scientific research, carry out industry-oriented and market-oriented applied research, train talents in the discipline and contribute to the social and economic development of scientific research.
