Recently, Professor Xia Dongsheng, dean of the School of Environment, was selected as one of the experts eligible for special government allowances from the State Council in 2020. All the recipients represent the backbone in advancing scientific and technological innovation, realizing high-quality economic growth, and modernizing national governance systems and capabilities. The special awards are given biennially to commend outstanding personnel who have contributed immensely to such fields as natural & social sciences research, technological development, medical health, education, and social sciences research.

Professor Xia Dongsheng is currently the dean of the School of Environment of Wuhan Textile University and the director of the Engineering Research Center of the Ministry of Education for Textile Printing and Dyeing Cleaner Production. He is mainly engaged in the research of catalytic oxidation water treatment technology and low-cost biochemical water treatment technology. Specifically, he takes charge of the industrialization of catalytic oxidation water treatment technology, and on this basis, carries out textile printing and dyeing high-temperature wastewater treatment and reuse technology, dual catalytic oxidation water treatment technology research and other engineering technology development work. The technology has now reached the international leading level, and has established engineering demonstrations, achieved industrialization, and has been successfully applied to the treatment of high-temperature printing and dyeing wastewater. It is expected to be applied to the treatment of high-temperature wastewater and the recovery and utilization of high-heat energy, with great economic prospects.

Since working in 2001, Professor Xia Dongsheng has undertaken one major national projects, one national support plan project, one national 863 youth fund, two provincial and ministerial-level projects. He also co-undertook two national 863 major projects, four provincial and ministerial-level projects and published more than 60 papers. In 2005, he was awarded as an advanced individual in scientific research. In 2010, he was awarded the title of a young and middle-aged expert with outstanding contribution in Hubei Province. At the end of 2011, he was selected as a second-level professor in Hubei Province. In 2018 he was awarded the title of Industry Professor and the title of Sunshine Distinguished Scholar in 2019.
