On September 17, 2025, the "Hubei Talent Week" was officially launched in Wuhan. Professor Xu Weilin, Party Secretary of our university and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, attended the opening ceremony upon invitation and delivered a keynote address. Under the theme "Contributing to Hubei’s Strategic Development through Tenacity, Compassion, and Resilience," Academician Xu encouraged young researchers to cultivate the aspiration of serving national imperatives, uphold the dedication required for meticulous scholarship, and maintain the vitality of lifelong learning. He emphasized the importance of broadening interdisciplinary perspectives, seizing opportunities presented by the times, and actively aligning scientific endeavors with national strategic priorities.

Xu stressed that the professional growth of every researcher is deeply rooted in the broader context of national development and the historic opportunities it offers. Genuine innovation must arise from a profound understanding of the country's strategic needs. Regardless of their specific research domain, scholars should answer the call to "write papers on the land of China," adhere consistently to the "Four Orientations," and foster the confidence to lead in innovation. He called on the scientific community to make significant contributions to achieving high-level self-reliance in science and technology, advancing the goals of a science and technology powerhouse and a talent-strong nation, and playing a pioneering role in accelerating Hubei’s development into a key strategic fulcrum for the rise of central China.
