In the afternoon of October 28th, International Office and International College of Education held the Multicultural Exchange Forum and International Students' Speech Contest of which theme is “Sharing my national heroes and patriotic feelings, devoting youthful energy and strength for a community of a shared future”. Hundreds of students coming from more than 10 countries including China, Russia, Zimbabwe, Ethiopia,gathered at the internet and smart conference room of International Exchange Center. Fifteen Chinese and international student representatives shared various national heroes and stories of their homeland.
Bangladesh student Sarazul shared the historical culture and traditions of Bangladesh, among which he highlighted the father of Bangladesh—Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s life devoted to the liberation of the nation and the people. Muvoti coming from Zimbabwe introduced the story of national woman hero Nehanda who fought against British invaders in the Lobengula period. Osei from Ghana presented the historical communication between Chairman Mao Zedong and Ghanaian president Nkrumah and the firm friendship between the two leaders. Ethiopian student Tesfaye introduced the national hero in his eyes—King Menelik who defended the country from the invasion of Italy, Britain and France.
Chinese students coming from Advanced Translation Major of the School of Foreign Language Li Huan and Chen Jiale explained and shared the historical background, the process of development, the Significance and achievements of success of 1911 Revolution. Liu Min, Zuo Can as well as other Chinese students recited plenty of classical poems written by Chaiman Mao. Also, they explained the background, cultural connotation and historical meaning of Qingyuanchun—Changsha, Qingyuanchun—Xue, Pusaman—Huangheloou and Xijiangyue—Jinggangshan.
Professor Lin Li, the director of International office and dean of School of International Education, said: “China is warmly welcoming more and more international youths to visit. Congruously, an open WTU is also welcoming more and more international students for further study. I hope that both Chinese & foreign teachers and students enhance mutual understanding, gain friendships, and grow together through communication and cooperation. In the future, we will continue to improve the Education for International Understanding and Cross-cultural Communication through mixing “Teaching and Practical Activities” and “Multicultural Exchange Forum”, and build an international platform where teachers and students can learn and communicate with each other.
