“Fashion and Climate Change Online Symposium 2021” was held online jointly by School of Fashion of Wuhan Textile University and Fashion Institute of Manchester Metropolitan University on September 9th. Professor Tao Hui, Dean of School of Fashion, was invited to attend the conference. Professor Tao came up with three viewpoints for sustainable design education of fashion industry. First, strengthen the guiding role of teachers. Teachers should be spreader, practitioner and provider of feedback. Second, establish corresponding curriculum system based on idea of sustainable development. Add sustainable development content to professional courses, open interdisciplinary public classes, and make interdisciplinary integration. Third, adopt regional coordinating cooperation based on development of regional characteristics.

Professor Tao invited Liang Zi, the receiver of Jinding Prize; Yuan Qiong, vice president of EEKA Fashion Corporation; Chen Yizhong, chairman of Mingyuan Textile Corporation to share their ideas and actions in prompting the sustainable development of fashion industry, contributing Chinese wisdom to it.
This Symposium aims at further illustrating the role that fashion plays in climate change, deepening understanding that fashion influences climate change and discussing how fashion industry contributes to building a better world with low carbon emissions. The conference also brings together different international voices from academia, industry and socialist countries and regions and discusses issues on fashion's climate change agenda from materials and design, supply chain management and consumer behavior.
This Symposium was also reported with the title of “Fashion and Climate Change Symposium: 10 key highlights” by the World Textile Information Website which is regarded as one of the famous Website presenting the International Development & Progress in the field of Textile and Fashion. The author of article, Jessica Owen concluded 10 key highlights from this event and spoke highly of the keynote given by Prof. Tao Hui, Dean of School of Fashion of Wuhan Textile University at the first highlights “Sustainable Fashion education”.

She wrote, the importance of developing and integrating sustainable fashion courses into education was the subject of a presentation by Professor Hui Tao, dean of the School of Fashion at Wuhan Textile University in China. Tao Hui said: “There is an urgent need for sustainable fashion professionals and the time has come to highlight sustainable fashion education.” There are several things that universities and educators can do to improve their students’ knowledge of sustainable and unsustainable fashion practices, said Tao. For example, educators can share their own industry experiences with their students; universities can integrate sustainable development into curriculums; and interdisciplinary classrooms can be created to promote a wider understanding of the value chain.
