From October 8th to 16th, the delegation led by President Xu Weilin visited Spain, Portugal and Switzerland to promote the pragmatic cooperation between the university and the world's first-class universities and scientific research institutions.
After arriving in Madrid, the delegation visited Universidad Complutense de Madrid in the afternoon, and discussed with the Spanish experts and scholars in the field of materials science & chemical engineering. Both sides shared the research status and achievements, as well as the problems occurred in the process of industrialization. The leaders of the two universities jointly discussed the cooperation topics of exchange and joint training of students at master's and doctoral levels between the two universities. In the process of visiting the laboratory, the positive role of laboratory platform construction in the cultivation of undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral talents was emphatically investigated.
At the the Spanish National Research Council, Institute of Food Science Research, the delegation had a comprehensive understanding of the standards and requirements of the European Union in the food testing system, as well as the equipment and detection methods in the fields of trace element detection and composition analysis after visited the food laboratory, the analytical testing center and the metabolomics platform laboratory. Combined with the research characteristics of our university in biomedical materials, laid a solid foundation for in-depth scientific research cooperation between the two sides.
Xu Welin said that this visit is the first return visit after Alejandro Cifuentes and Elena Ibanez gave academic speech at WTU twice. WTU attaches great importance to the cooperative partnership established with the Spanish National Research Council. It is hoped that under the framework of the Cooperation Memorandum, the two sides will carry out international scientific research cooperation in the interdisciplines of life and health, so as to solve a number of key issues and core technical bottlenecks in the strategic needs of human health development.
In Barcelona, the delegation met with Mr. Richard Turner Lyth, head of international affairs of Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Both sides discussed the cooperative topics in the field of bilateral visiting, joint cultivation for high-level talents. After the meeting, the delegation visited the Spanish Textile Museum.
In Puente China España, Ms. Qi Liling, chairman of the Puente China España and president of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce, Shenzhen, introduced the operation of the group in many fields such as education, tourism, real estate, green energy and legal & tax offices. Both sides had an in-depth discussion on how to promote Sino-Spanish economic and trade cooperation and promote cooperation and exchanges between enterprises of the two countries in textile industry and other fields.
In Portugal, the delegation carried out the return visit to the trainees who involved in foreign aid training. At the Portuguese-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the delegation met with Mr. Bernardo Mendia, Secretary-General of the Portuguese-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, who thanked Wuhan Textile University for successfully organizing the "2023 Seminar on Cooperation between China and Portugal in the Textile Industry". He said that founded in 1978, the Portuguese-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCILC) is the first institution dedicated to promoting the development of economic and trade relations between China and Portugal more than 40 years. The CCILC has been committed to stimulating the vitality of economic and trade relations between the two countries and building a bridge of connectivity between the industrial and commercial sectors of the two countries. Xu Weilin pointed out that as the first Western European country to sign a memorandum of understanding with China to jointly build the "Belt and Road", Portugal has increasingly close economic and trade exchanges with China. Portugal's textile industry has a long history. It is hoped that through the platform of the Portugal-China Chamber of Commerce and Industry, more experts and scholars in the field of textile and fashion will be going to visit WTU, so as to promote Sino-Portuguese textile industry cooperation, and make the contribute to the enduring strength of the friendly relations between the two countries.
At the University of Minho in Portugal, the delegation had a discussion and exchange with Professor Raul Fangueiro, Vice President of the University of Minho, and visited the Laboratory of New textile Materials and Technology, the Nano Research Center, the Biotechnology and Bioengineering Laboratory and the Engineering Innovation Laboratory. Raul Fangueiro shared his story of friendly communication with the teachers and students of WTU. He said that as an international scholar and trainee, he came to Wuhan Textile University three times to participate in the International Academic Forum and International Seminar. Every experience in WTU made him admire the achievements and rapid development in the education, teaching, scientific research and international cooperation. Xu Weilin said that he hoped to take this return visit as an opportunity to integrate the superior resources of the two universities, promote scholars exchanges and jointly carry out international scientific research cooperation.
The delegation visited Famalicon, the textile city of Portugal, where Mr. Antonio Braz Costa, CEO of the Center for Textile and Garment Technology (CITEVE) and the Center for Nanotechnology and Advanced Materials Research (CENTI), introduced the development history, current scale, operation and research progress. The delegation visited the experimental equipment and facilities of the research center, gained an in-depth understanding of the latest research achievements and advanced technologies of Portugal in the field of textile and fashion. Both sides had an in-depth discussion on the future international cooperation and expressed the expectation of jointly promoting the cooperation in the field of Textile industry between China and Portugal. In addition, under the organization of Ms. Paula Rosa, head of diplomacy, science and innovation of the Famalicon City Council, the members of the delegation held a discussion with the representatives of the trainees who studied at WTU in May 2023.
In Switzerland, the delegation went to the United Nations Institute for Training and Research, talked with Mr. Julian Caletti, head of the project, and signed a memorandum of cooperation. Xu Weilin said that the United Nations Institute for Training and Research is an important platform to open up the international vision of the global youth, hoping that the two sides will strengthen exchanges and cooperation in the process of international talent training. WTU will encourage students to go abroad and actively participate in various international academic forums, competitions and practical training activities, so as to inject youthful vitality into China's participation in global governance. Julian Kaleta hopes that through the projects organized by the United Nations Institute for Training and Research, more Chinese students can learn about the relevant organizations of the United Nations, and looks forward to working closely with the university to jointly solve many problems and challenges the mankind facing.
