At the beginning of the fall semester of 2021, the International Office and the School of International Education recently invited the staff of the Security Office to impart safety knowledge to international students, and teach the first lesson of "Safe Studying in WTU". Zhang Shangyong, Secretary of the Party Branch of the International Office and the School of International Education, and Lin Li, Director of the International Office and Dean of the School of International Education, attended the event.
In the safety education lesson, Mr. Liu Cheng from the Fire Department and Zheng Rui, the Deputy Captain of the security company, explained fire cases and serious consequences it could cause, sounding the fire safety alarm for the students. He explained in detail how to fight fires, how to escape, and how to use firefighting equipment. In order to improve the ability of international students in using fire-fighting equipment, Captain Zheng demonstrated the correct usage of dry powder fire extinguishers and fire hydrants. After that, the international students conducted a full-scale actual exercise according to the demonstration actions and became familiar with the usage of the equipment.
After the on-site teaching, the International Office, the leaders and cadres of the School of International Education inspected the potential fire hazards in the kitchens and dormitories of the international students and gave the preventive measures for safety accidents and introduced how to deal with them after a safety accident. Dean Lin Li emphasized that after all the 2021 freshmen report and register, the number of international students in the school will double than that of the last year. The whole school should take this education and practical activities as a starting point to earnestly take safety responsibilities and handle safety inspections. Meanwhile, through the establishment of a multi-departmental cooperative safety education mechanism with the Security Office and the School of International Education. At the same time, with a working model that combines safety knowledge explanations from teachers with students' practical safety exercises, students' safety awareness can be effectively enhanced. In addition, after the end of the safety education, each student grabbed the knowledge on how to prevent safety accidents practically, and how to respond and deal with emergencies quickly and accurately, so as to truly protect the safety of each student's life and property.
After the safety practice exercise, the international students said that the safety courses and exercises had helped them a lot, especially in the use of dry powder fire extinguishers, fire hose connections and fire hydrant sprinklers. In order to improve everyone's ability to protect and self-rescue in safety accidents, they will contribute their own strength to the creation of a safe campus in their later study and life.
