On the evening of October 22, the Intangible Cultural Heritage Dress Show, jointly launched by Wuhan Textile University and Gongwangfu Museum of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, made a wonderful appearance in the Shouhuang Hall of Jingshan Park in Beijing. This was also the first dress show of its kind featuring traditional hand-woven homespun in the "Splendid China" series of activities. Major media gathered and reported this event.
Jingchu area, with Hubei province accounting for the most part, is one of the birthplaces of textile culture. The traditional spinning, dyeing, weaving and embroidering techniques are various. The Chu clothing culture, with a history of 1000 years, is an important part of the traditional textile and clothing culture. 37 sets costumes were designed by a team of the ICH center of Wuhan Textile University. Based on traditional textile techniques, with the exploration of the essence of Chu's textile and apparel culture, the design incorporated traditional textile technology of Hubei Zaoyang coarse cloth, traditional cotton textile technology of Ezhou Huarong, traditional textile technology of Hong'an Dabu, traditional cotton textile technology of Hebei Wei county, the original village soil textile technologyof Zanhuang, as well as seven national or provincial projects such as Hubei Huangmei picking flowers and Hunan Miao picking flowers, with an aim to provide new ideas for the inheritance and protection of traditional textile intangible cultural heritage, so that people’s lives could be bettered and the brilliant hand-woven art be passed down from generation to generation.
