On April 26, the 2018 awarding ceremony of Hubei Provincial Science and Technology Prize was held at the Hongshan Auditorium. Present at the event were Jiang Chaoliang, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Wang Xiaodong, Provincial Governor and Vice-Secretary of the Committee. Peng Yuyuan, president of WTU, also attended this ceremony by invitation.

In 2018, 7 scientific research results of WTU won the Hubei provincial Science and Technology Prize. What’s worth noting is that professor Xu Weiling won the First Prize for his project of "hierarchical agglomeration regulation of fiber in yarn triangle and industrialization production of high-performance yarn and fabric". The Prize, established by the provincial government, is the highest-level award of its kind and goes annually to researchers and professionals who have made outstanding contributions to scientific and technological progress.
