May 28th and 29th witnessed the 5th meeting of University Federation of China and Central-Eastern European Countries held at Shenzhen University. Tian Xuejun, deputy minister of Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China (P.R.C.), Branka Ramljak, secretary of state of the Republic of Croatia, Ma Jianfei, secretary of the party committee, deputy director-general of the Confucius Institute Headquarters and deputy director of the Chinese Language Council International (Chinese Office), Sheng Jianxue, secretary general of China Scholarship Council (CSC), Zhao Lingshan, secretary general of China Education Association for International Exchange (CEAIE), principals and representatives of 24 universities from 13 Central-Eastern European countries and 110 Chinese universities attended the meeting. President Peng Yuyuan, on behalf of WTU, also attended the meeting. WTU has been formally approved as a member of University Federation of China and Central-Eastern European Countries.
Under the theme of“strengthening educational cooperation between China and Central-Eastern European countries by cultivating innovative talents”, the meeting aims at sharing practical experiences by promoting educational cooperation between China and Central-Eastern European countries. Representatives from the competent departments of education in Central-Eastern European countries, Chinese Language Council International (Chinese Office), China Scholarship Council (CSC), and China Education Association for International Exchange (CEAIE) delivered their speeches respectively. Meanwhile, China Education Association for International Exchange (CEAIE) also released the website for exchange platform of University Federation in China and Central-Eastern European countries by announcing to initiate a package of feasible cooperation projects.
Founded in 2014, University Federation of China and Central-Eastern European countries aims at enhancing educational exchange and cooperation between China and Central-Eastern European countries by constructing a cooperative partnership and platform between universities both in China and Central-Eastern European countries. With the adoption of regular consultation mechanism in work, the Federation commits to establishing information and resource sharing platform among the member colleges and universities, by facilitating the channels of cooperation and vigorously promoting mutual recognition of diplomas and degrees between the governments of China and Central-Eastern European countries. It also encourages the members of the Federation to apply for the government scholarship and establish scholarship as well as setting up comprehensive and pragmatic partnership among these colleges and universities so as to carry out academic exchanges, scientific research cooperation, innovation, as well as achievement transformation. In 2018, WTU was formally approved as a member of University Federation of China and Central-Eastern European countries. Currently, the Federation has 122 members from China and Central-Eastern European countries.
