WTU students won the first prize in the 10th National Mathematics Competition for College Students

On March 29th, the final of the 10th National Mathematics Competition for college students was held in Harbin, sponsored by Chinese Mathematical Society and undertaken by Harbin Institute of Technology. Under the guidance of Dr. Mao Yao from the School of Mathematics and Computer Science, Zhou Yu, a senior from the School  of Mechanical Engineering set a new record and won the national first prize in the final of the non-mathematics major group.


There are two stages to the competition, the preliminary and the final. Over 100,000 students from 700-plus colleges and universities in 31 provinces or municipalities participated in the preliminary contest. Through fair grading and strict selection, 539 students from 203 colleges and universities including Peking University, Tsinghua university, Fudan University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Wuhan University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology and Wuhan  Textile University made it to the grand final.


During the training process for the competition, Dr. Mao went to great lengths to provide students with timely and indispensable instructions and guidance. As such, Zhou made it to the final with excellent results in the preliminary competition of Hubei division at the end of October last year. In the national final, he was in a calm and confident state of mind, thus winning the national first prize and demonstrating the fine qualities of WTU students.
